Homosexuality is one of the most controversial topics of our day, and we all need clear, biblical answers that are grounded in love and compassion. In a clear and compassionate style, author Mark Yarhouse, explains the research regarding what causes same-sex attraction and whether or not it can be overcome. He offers honest, accurate answers to parents and pastors and 5/5(2). This changed halfway through the last century, when some Bible translators began connecting these terms directly to homosexuality. The first occurrence of this shift came in , when a translation of the Bible was published that simply stated that “homosexuals” will not inherit the kingdom of God.

The Bible says nothing about “homosexuality” as an innate dimension of personality. Sexual orientation was not understood in biblical times. There are references in the Bible to same-gender sexual behavior, and all of them are undeniably negative.   Those who believe that homosexuality is a sin often point to several well-known Scripture passages from the Old and New Testaments. In his book God and the Gay Here are 10 Bible verses.

The book doesn't try to define exactly what the Bible does say on homosexuality, but rather what it doesn't. Sometimes Helminiak will come right out with his criticism of bad exegesis, i.e., in helping put to rest that useless myth about Sodom being destroyed for it's homosexual populace.4/5. In the coauthored book Homosexuality and the Bible, Gagnon presents a conservative side of the debate on homosexuality and the church, while Dan O. Via, Professor Emeritus of New Testament at Duke Divinity School, presents an opposing ion: Dartmouth College, Harvard .

Homosexuality and the Bible: Two Views is a Homosexuality and the Bible book between Dan Via and Robert Gagnon, both New Testament professors. Via takes the view that the church should affirm gay marriage, Gagnon affirms the traditional view of homosexual sex as sinful/5.

If you are wondering about the ethics of homosexuality vis a vis the Bible, this book is a must. It will educate you on the arguments of those who claim the Bible condemns same-sex relationships, and allow you to counter these arguments effectively.

I've read extensively on this subject, and this book is the best summary out by:   There are a lot of great books on the Bible and homosexuality that deal with subjects including theology, pastoral care, counseling, apologetics, parenting, communication, and evangelism.

In his book, Jesus, The Bible, and Homosexuality, he lays out the argument for why he believes that: We need to give people who are LGBT [Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender] full and equal rights within the church The General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (USA; PCUSA) approved ordination of homosexuals in and gay marriage in /5.

Allberry’s book does so as well and, though it is a shorter book overall, he gives the biblical teaching more sustained attention. There are two basic parts to it. First, every place the Bible directly addresses sexual relations between people of the same gender, it is always unambiguously forbidden.

In the New Testament (NT), there are at least three passages that refer to homosexual activity: Romans –27, 1 Corinthians –10, and 1 Timothy –A fourth passage, Judeis often interpreted as referring to homosexuality. Jesus discusses marriage only in a heterosexual context when he cites the Book of Genesis during a discussion of marriage (Matthew –6.

The two arguments presented in Homosexuality and the Bible:Two Views could not be further apart in both position and in substance. In this book, Dan O. Via and Robert A.J.

Gagnon present arguments for homosexuality and against homosexuality as an acceptable lifestyle for a by: The Bible says nothing about "homosexuality" as an innate dimension of personality. Sexual orientation was not understood in biblical times.

There are references in the Bible to same-gender sexual behavior, and all of them are undeniably negative. Gagnon offers the most thorough analysis to date of the biblical texts relating to homosexuality. He demonstrates why attempts to classify the Bible's rejection of same-sex intercourse as irrelevant for our contemporary context fail to do justice to 5/5(4).

Sodomite:  There is no word in biblical Greek or Hebrew for “sodomy.” A Sodomite was simply an inhabitant of Sodom, just as a Moabite was an inhabitant of Moab. by Matt Slick. The Bible doesn't speak of homosexuality very often; but when it does, it condemns it as 's take a look. Leviticus"You shall not lie with a male as one lies with a female; it is an abomination."1; Leviticus"If there is a man who lies with a male as those who lie with a woman, both of them have committed a detestable act; they shall surely be put.

Homosexuality is Singled Out by God to Exemplify the “Reprobate Mind,” and Identify the Period of Apostasy Preceding the Return of Christ. In Romans 1 homosexuality is singularly condemned as the sin associated with the “reprobate mind” and apostasy (v).

In 1 Timothy 1 Homosexuals are equated with murderers, slavers and perjurers. With compassion, sensitivity, and scholarly depth, Hays makes the strongest exegetical case I'm aware of that the weight of the biblical witness is.

Few recent issues have sparked such debate in the churches as homosexuality, same-sex unions, and ordination of gays and lesbians. A key point of contention is the meaning and authority of the biblical witness. In this brief book, two New Testament scholars discuss the relevant biblical texts on the subject of homosexual behavior and orientation/5(2).
